How it actually feels to a young person when just starting out in his education.

If kindergarten teachers and other faculty would actually take the time and effort to truly make beginner-students feel welcome and unafraid, it would feel a lot less like "schoing to ghoul" to said shy/timid youngsters.

Some of them are just disfigured humans who age very slowly and are immune to radiations, and are called intelligent ghouls, and others got their brain so irradiated that they fell into madness and attack any non-ghoul they see, and those are called feral ghouls.
