it is a coping mechanism where people pretend to be a animal for a short amount of time, normally a domestic pet just as stress relief or trauma cope or for fun, not to be associated with kink or petplay, it's just animal lovers playing with pet toys and putting on a set of animal ears to cope with stress.
This is similar to ''kinning'' something. (not having to do with furries)
