nu-metal

I don't really know what's wrong with those people that hate nu-metal and nu-metal bands. Apart from LP, I don't listen to genres or artists, I listen to _songs_. Damn, if I hear a catchy melody in a Britney Spears song, I'd like it, still knowing Britney is a bitch. So you lame-asses stop whining, take off your f***in' poser masks, and listen to whatever music that you like. And, you could try looking at the lyrics of nu-metal.

Look at the "broken love"/other themes ratio of most genres. For pop, it's 90/10, for example, 80/20 goes for emo, hip-hop has almost no love, but that's another thing. You see, nu-metal DOES have love songs, but they are different from the masses, and the ratio is something like 40/60.

And why should people blame nu-metal for being mainstream-friendly? Why, in fact, is being "mainstream-freindly" bad? The mainstream is what most people currently like, and, even when its fashion goes away, there would people still listening to it.

And, who cares what kind of people are the musicians? Probably most famous classic music composers were mean bastards, but their music is still remembered. The Beatles were dope-heads, but they still are great. Understand it, nobody cares if Fred Durst is a poser. If you like LB, you like it. And if you don't, you don't.

So stop f***ing around and don't forget that music is made for people to have fun, not to argue. K?
There was this really good example here, it was like, "dude listen to this" - "it rocks, what is it?" - "korn" - "it sucks". If you like some music, listen to it, dammit! Enough hipocrisy.

nu-metal

A new genre of music pioneered by the early 90's band, KoRn . Alot of people bash this style of music, saying its for possers and junk. Even going as far as to say the lyrics of these songs have no actual meaning, and the genre is just a "happier" metal, which just isnt true, and example would be KoRn's song from their first album, called "Daddy". The singer, John Davis, is cleary speaking about when he was raped by his neighbor. Oh yeah, thats real fucking happy people. Comparing Nu-metal too traditional metal is apsolutly stupid, it is not that kind of metal. Theres Metal, Heavy metal, and Death Metal, and now we have Nu-metal(probably some other types too). The genre is primarily a merging of rock, punk, rap, metal. Having generally very dark lyrics, sometimes extremly heavy rthymes, and sometimes not so heavy...its not about making the heaviest music they can....this genre was given birth by KoRn, while they were experimenting to find their bands sound. All you you bums that bash the genre need to have more respect. And no, they do not use special studio sound equipment to make it sound good, all the sounds are made by the band memebers, with the same tools any other band uses, and sound just as good live, as they do on their cd's. I'm not saying you gota like the genre, but give it the respec it deserves, and bash this Emo bullshit, and emocore or what ever....now that stuff is crap.
Nu-metal is not a true metal, it is an entirely different genre, that was simply given birth by Metal, to compare the two is entirely inaccurate.

KoRn is a great band, origanly a metal band, but gave birth to Nu-metal in their garage while experimenting with their sound.

black metal

black metal is said to derive from Venom, but Venom's "Black metal" has hardly something in common with bm. Black metal is also said to be the darkest and heaviest metal style. The real point is that black metal doesn't really aim to be heavy ( black metal and death metal is surprisingly very often mistakenly defined ) and dark. Bm is one of these metal styles that contain so many substyles that it should be divided into seperate sorts. ex.g. - Finntroll and Darkthrone are put together into the bm family, but there are as different to each other as for example old Anathema and new Anathema. The comprehension of the black metal "generally" style is a matter of knowledge of that sort of music. It's not always quick, primitive riffs playing in 100 repeats, it's not only quick drums with the snare drum on the foreground, and the vocal is not only screech. Black metal is a set of many substyles, and the style is, imo, in the big family of metal the only that can't be really defined. Black metal can be quick, and if it is quick, it's quicker than Thrash/Speed metal. It can be wild, and if it is wild it's wilder than dodecaphony . It can be massive, and if it is, it's heavier, more gloomy, more overwhelming than Death or Doom. The bm style is a quintessence of freedom in the metal music. The only thing that is characteristic from that style is that it has really no special characteristics.
And one thing more: the subject of the lyrics and so-called philosophy that many bm albums contain. It can be pagan, satanistic, socialist, neonazi, thelemic, atheistic etc. etc. But don't look and that, you don't need to be pagan to listen pagan. I'm a christian, and i hate nazizm or socialism, but i love most Drudkh, Hate Forest and Burzum. Don't be too true! Be yourself. Be like black metal - authentic

Heavy Metal

I really can't blame anyone for hating metal when they get their exposure from headbanger's ball. Understand that true metalheads don't call most of that shit metal. Most of it's there just to sell an image. Most real metal is way underground. You really have to look around to find the good stuff since it's an extreme artform that most people can't appreciate. Chances are that the mall won't carry any good metal except for bay thrash (basically just metallica and megadeth, and even there you have to know what you're looking for.) Instead of giving you a rundown of all the awesome metal bands out there, I'll give you some reasons to be intrigued.

1.True metal is based around a philosophy that one should take action to remake the world as one sees fit. The best example the the phenomenon of black metal. At its beginnings, it was not so much a music genre as an underground social movement, that centered around several bands in Norway such as Mayhem and Burzum. The satanic imagery was used not so much as a litteral reference to Satan as a symbol of the counteraction to Christian culture. The goal of these bands was litterally to rid Norway of Christianity and return it to its pagan roots. People connected with the band did indeed burn churches, but it was not for shock value, it was what they believed in.

2.Much true metal is more technically involved than any other music except for classical and real jazz. Obviously the drums and guitars and very fast, but also death metal is strenuous for the left hand because of the number of diffent notes being played and the unusual orders they come in. Black metal is very layered and harmonic and requires a good understanding of scales and modes. Usually the keyboard parts are very complex. The drumming is also complex, and not just fast, especially with math metal, which is often very syncopated and some bands such as Meshuggah use polymetrics to create an extrordinarily disjointed sound which is difficult for almost anyone to follow. Also the melodic singing is more demanding than most types of music, and even the growling vocals and more difficult to do convincingly than you might imagine.

3.There is more diversity in metal than most genres, everything from the soaring symphonic arrangements of bands like Nightwish and Sonata Arctica to sheer noise and aggression to the barely controlled chaos of the Dillinger Escape Plan to the folk awesomeness of Finntroll and everything in between.

In short, true metal is not about pretense like most of the modrock and fashioncore popular today. Yes, there are some shitty metal bands out there, but if you can find the ones that are there because they believe in themselves and have real talent, you may really start to appreciate them.

Death Metal

Death Metal is probally one of the most unknown and unpopular genre's there is today, even though it is very hard to play and requires immense skill. The solo's are usually very high pitched and are fairly common. Bassist's play a big part in death metal and are usually extremely skilled. e.g alex webster of cannibal corpse. Most metal fans that dont like Death metal are usually dickheads who have never sat down and listened to the genre throughly before. Lyrics span from crazy gore and horror to politics to stuff about satan and the devil. Some people say that Death Metal is a bunch of noise, they are cunts who cant listen to music properly because even though the usually low vocals may make it sound like a mash of music it is really not!
may i mention i am only 13 and death metal is my favourite genre which may surprise some of you old-school death metallers who think death metal is nearly dead, which i hope it isnt! My favourite Death Metal bands are Cannibal Corpse, In Flames, At The Gates, Deicide, Carcass and six feet under

Groove Metal

Also called post-thrash, and as the name suggests, it's an extreme metal formed after thrash made its wave.

It blended heavy metal, thrash metal, and hardcore punk together and it came into being in the early 1990s thanks to bands such as Sepultura, Machine Head, White Zombie, Exhorder, Fear Factory, and Pantera.

Just like grunge and (eww...) rap, groove had alot of popularity. There are barely, if not no, groove metal bands that suck ass and any of them are worth a listen even if you are more into grunge or whatnot.

Groove metal was a MAJOR influence to nu metal. Oh yeah about that...
{to nu metalers}
Sepultura, Fear Factory, and Machine Head (ya know, major groove metal bands) experimented with nu metal during it's rise to popularity... however, they did not like their results when that happened and stuck with their old material. Where's your god now, losers?
