Gateflan

A rarer species of SciFi fan.
'Gate' refers to Stargate, including the shows Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, almost-game Stargate Worlds, almost-show Stargate Universe. One of the top-three scifi cult followings.

'Flan' refers to a show called Firefly. A flan is also called a browncoat (both of which have entries on UD).

Both together means the person loves both shows. Since the two shows are so different, it's seem odd to have mutual fans, but since many of the acotrs had crossovers, there are more Gateflans than you'd think.
They quote both shows contantly, they change thier wardrobes, preferences, etc.
But usually, they're really smart.

Joey: Yoa sei toamonah! Holy hannah!

Scotty: What?? Chinese AND a blatant Gate reference? Why, my friend, you are a Gateflan! We should get you to an Internet support group immeadiatly!

Joey: *begins swearing in chinese* oh, go suck a lemon.

gateway beer

From the term gateway drug but referring to beer. A beer that acts as a gateway to drinking tastier, more delicious craft beers. A beer you drink because you truly enjoy the flavor, not just as a reason to get schnockered.

It was drinking Old Spotted Sow that finally turned me away from factory made lite lagers. It was my gateway beer.

I started out drinking fool fizz as a gateway beer. After that I moved on to more hoppy, malty beers. Now I can't drink anything else.

A University of Florida Fan that has imbibed too much alcohol either before, during or after a football game, during the weekend or any day of the week in which one is drinking and exhibits some or all of the following qualities: rambling, yelling, the inability to stand on two feet, slurring of words, constantly falling down, vomiting, urinating ones self, and lacking a sense of general direction.

Danny Gatton

Guitar virtuoso who excelled at an early age and went on to cover a wide range of styles, including blues, rockabilly and even some jazz. He had a particularly incredible right hand technique which made heavy use of hybrid picking with flatpick and fingers, and an amazing ear. Was nicknamed "the humbler" and "the world's greatest unknown guitarist". He tragically committed suicide in 1994.

X is amazing on the guitar, but he's no Danny Gatton (where X permits a remarkably large number of substitutions).
