nu-liberal

Noun or adjective. Pejorative term used to describe modern American "liberalism" as a political position, and as opposed to "classic liberalism" which is more akin to "libertarianism" in America. Presumably inspired by the term "nu-metal", which is used in a similarly pejorative manner among fans of heavy metal music.

"Al Gore is a nu-liberal. Nu-liberal policy often borrows from environmentalism and socialism, and favours the creation of a nanny-state"
