A lot of females (and some males) assume that any single guy deep down wants to find love (and sex especially) but is afraid of commitment, so he wants to stay single and be a swinger until he finds the right one. In reality, there are some people who are male and content being single and celibate, just like their are females who are content to live the same way. It's the way many females think a guy needs them to survive, or they'd be nothing and nobody if it wasnt for her that makes some guys even more content to be single and celibate.
The guy knew that there were just as many narcissistic and self-serving females in the world as their were narcissistic and selfish males (like himself, the asshole that he was) from experience in the world, and so he just stayed single, no matter who came up with a new rumor about him. There were too many people who had an obsession with living like they were in Hollywood all the time with their bullshit gossip and rumors, which even some of the people in Hollywood found irritating.

My neighborhood is full of vacation rentals. All I have single serving neighbors. Here one week, gone the next.
