Ghettofication

The opposite of "gentrification." Disinvestment and the creation of deteriorated property caused by lower-income people slowly taking over and moving in to middle-class neighborhoods resulting in the flight of the former wealthier inhabitants.

In Detroit, a large proportion of ghettofied housing was originally built for middle and upper income occupants. As the process of ghettofication occurred this housing was increasingly occupied by lower income people. The ensuing disinvestment caused a spiral of decline in this former neighborhood of gentry as mansions were subdivided into several apartments with impoverished tenants. As ghettofication increased the houses were not maintained and blight engulfed the neighborhood.

ghetto gentleman

A male who knows how to treat a woman (opens doors, brings her flowers, treats her with respect, etc.) but can also have a ghetto side and listens to rap and hip-hop music. (Basically, he knows how to keep it crunk.) A ghetto gentleman has a certain swagger and may have tattoos, piercings, and dress a little on the ghetto side.

A girl to her friends:
"Oh the date was great, he opened every door for me and told me I looked beautiful. Then on the way home in the car we sang along to T-Pain and Weezy together. He's was such a ghetto gentleman."

ghetticure

A pedicure or manicure where one paints over existing chipped nail polish before going to a special event. Usually done after shaving legs in sink. Etymology: ghett(o)- (man)icure/(ped)icure

I wanted to wear my peeptoe pumps to the partay, but my toenail polish was chipped & peeled. So I gave myself a ghetticure.
