selfie-obsessed

A person who is so self-obsessed that they post copious amounts of selfies on their social media with no purpose other than to say "look at me!" They do this in hopes of getting 'likes' in order to validate their looks and sense of self(ie)worth. This is a common practice of someone with low self esteem that tries to overcompensate for their insecurities by posting filtered pictures of themselves to feed their ego...as if we don't know that for every one selfie posted there are 10 others deleted.
"I had to un-follow Cassie on instagram because she posts a selfie every five minutes like "look at me on my way to the gym," "now here I am getting my hair done" ...she is selfie-obsessed, on instagram and real life!

False Self

(In pathological narcissism) A confabulated persona presented to the outer world in order to secure admiration, adulation, and attention. The False Self is omniscient, omnipotent, brilliant, and perfect. It has many psychological functions.

The two most important are:

1. It serves as a decoy, it "attracts the fire". It is a proxy for the True Self. It is tough as nails and can absorb any amount of pain, hurt and negative emotions. By inventing it, the child develops immunity to the indifference, manipulation, sadism, smothering, or exploitation – in short: to the abuse – inflicted on him by his parents (or by other Primary Objects in his life). It is a cloak, protecting him, rendering him invisible and omnipotent at the same time.

2. The False Self is misrepresented by the narcissist as his True Self. The narcissist is saying, in effect: "I am not who you think I am. I am someone else. I am this (False) Self. Therefore, I deserve a better, painless, more considerate treatment." The False Self, thus, is a contraption intended to alter other people's behaviour and attitude towards the narcissist.
- This guy creeps me out. He is so vain, artificial, and a know-it-all!

- It's merely his False Self. Deep inside he is even worse!

First Rule of Self Pity

“No one wants to hear about your troubles unless your troubles are worse than theirs.
When a University of Chicago law professor blogged his complaints about making ends meet with a household income of more than a quarter of a million dollars a year, he violated the First Rule of Self Pity.

Self check

A really lame basketball player that can't score. A player you don't have to hold.
Yo, we need to double Kevin Garnett 'cause that guy they signed to a 10-day contract is a self check.

true self

The true self is the epicenter of a person's entire being, it is the total sum of everything that we are. It typically includes the conscious and unconscious minds as well as the psyche and the soul.

The realization of ones true self can only happen when one becomes aware of the false ego and overcomes the vanity of this great illusion. Without the temptation of the materialism of the false ego we are essentially pure awareness, experiencing itself.
He was unable to realize his true self because his false ego cant let him acknowledge his self deception, the lie hes convinced himself.

Self-confidence

“Hey I heard Bridget’s signing up to be an SRC! Are you signing up?”
Oh shit, no one’s gonna want a fucking emo girl with no self-confidence to sign up”
