When something of secondary importance improperly takes on the role of something of primary importance. The expression pre-dates the movie by the same name, and was NOT coined by said movie.
Concentrate on the dog wagging his tail, not on that the tail might wag the dog.

weave wag

Action taken by women, usually black and wannabeez, when they are agitated. The head moves quickly from side to side thus wagging the weave. Can be accompanied by threatening hand motions or display of palm. Serious chimpout usually ensues. Phrases like "Oh no you di'int" or "You be trippin" are usually used in conjunction with the weave wag.
When Shaawnee'qua got mad she gave me the weave wag. It was a real chimpout, cuz I di'nt do nuffin.
