They brake hard before they have to stop so that they can roll gently to where their car should be, and accelerate hard to stop other cars changing from one lane to their lane, then match the speed of the other car creating a Mexican road block. They also keep as much distance as they can from vehicles much bigger than them, even if doing so puts them in the other vehicles blindspot. On a duel carriageway, they always stay in the outside lane because of other cars joining the road and the other car may not see them.
