It is not a form of Spanish Reggae, but instead an evolution of the modern Jamaican popular music, called dancehall. Upon listening to both dancehall and reggaeton songs, the similarity becomes obvious. Reggaeton also can draw influences from Merengue, Bachata, Salsa, Vallenato, and House, and combine these forms of music in a new and unique way. It is this mix of different styles found throughout latin america that continues to drive the music forward and keep it from becoming overly repetetive.
Reggaeton is based upon the "Dem-Bow" beat. Though many westerners may critique the music for hoving the same beat in every song, the fact is, this is the same as any form of latin music. Every salsa song has the same rhythm, as does every cumbia, every merengue, etc... Any music intended specifically for dancing, as reggaeton is, will always have the same beat to make it easier and more fun to dance to.
Also, though many reggaeton songs have explicit lyrics, this is only one form of the genre, called "Perreo," which is usually accompanied by a form of grinding which goes by the same name. However, there are other forms of reggaeton: "Bachateo" and "Romantico" are two of the most common, both typically based around love. Reggaeton can be danced fast, slow, in pairs, or even single.
Most reggaeton is based in Puerto Rico, but many productions also come out of the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Panama, and certain parts of the United States (most notably, New York City). The music is extremely popular throughout Latin America, though less so in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and Mexico.

Don Omar sings more emotional songs, often in the "bachateo" style. Some hits are "Pobre Diabla", "Reggaeton Latino", "Dale don Dale", and "Cuentale."

Get the regs mug.Arguably one of the most successful marching band programs in California. The Upland Highland Regiment has received numerous first place and sweepstakes awards in Bands Of America, Western Band Association, and SCSBOA events. The Regiment has been a finalist every year it's competed in Regional Championships and in 2004 was the Las Vegas Regional Champion followed by the 2005 Southern California Regional Champion and the 2005 FlagStaff preliminary class AAA champion. In October of 2006 Upland was named the 2006 Los Angeles Regional Champion making them Western Regional Champions 3 years running. The Upland Highland Regiment went undefeated in 2005 in Western Band Association up untill WBA Finals in which they placed 2nd. The Upland Instrumental Music Department is a very well rounded program which includes three concert bands, two jazz ensembles and a very active winter percussion and winter guard program.

Regina is estimated to contain 185,000 people. Its downtown residential areas are disappearing as the majority of development exists on the south-eastern portion of the city. The central neighbourhoods are becoming more prone to crime and poverty and disportionally represent people of aboriginal descent.
Its attractions include the IMAX, the Saskatchewan Science Centre, the Agridome, Taylor Field (the provincial CFL team the Saskatchewan Rough Riders), the RCMP barracks, etc.
In the past, Regina played a pivotal role in Canada's agricultural market but is presently moving towards a greater role in natural resources, specifically oil, natural gas, kimberlite.
Historically a left-leaning city, currently a provincial NDP stronghold. Regina represents one of the largest native populations in Canada and celebrates its many cultures with an annual celebration called "Mosaic".
Regina also is home to the University of Regina. GO RAMS!
