close luck

Close luck is when you are close enough to witness something bad happen, but lucky enough to not be apart of it.
You witness a car accident happen, but you are not included in it. You would have close luck.

close reading

Reading a book or poem so carefully (while constantly referencing the OED), that you suddenly discover something "new and special" about one word in the poem. This word then magically allows you to write three paragraphs about its "new and special meaning." All the while during this "close reading," you will be contemplating suicide as your face, body, and mental thought process will hurt with the agony of forced close analysis.
Bob: I've got a twenty seven page paper due tomorrow on a four line poem.

Chris: Man you better do a close reading of that poem.

Starbucks Close

A non-exact unit of measurement used to describe the distance between two places that are convienently close to each other. Derived from the fact that Starbucks coffee shops are built so close together, the distance between one Starbucks and the next is incredibly short.
Person 1: "This house party sucks. Let's hit up that bar on Main, find some sluts."

Person 2: "Is it close by here?"

Person 1: "Oh, dude, super close."

Person 2: "How close?"

Person 1: "Like, Starbucks Close."

Person 2: "Fuck it, let's roll."

always be closing

The three most important things in entrepreneurship are: sell, sell, sell. Good salespeople are always closing deals. They never forget to bring the contracts with them, never forget to ask for the deal and never forget to get their client's signature. They also understand that the true purpose of marketing is not really to sell anything but to build a brand and the true purpose of a brand is to build trust and the true purpose of building trust is to give the salesperson a greater opportunity to close the deal. After all, people like to buy from people they like and trust.
Here is an exchange between actor Nicky Katt in character as Greg Weinstein in the 2000 film, Boiler Room, with Giovanni Ribisi playing Seth Davis:

Greg: Now, now, listen to me. Even though you're not actually selling stock yet, I want you to remember the code we have here, okay? Did you see Glengarry Glen Ross?

Seth: Yeah.

Greg: Okay, do you remember 'ABC'?

Seth: Yeah. 'Always be closing.'

Greg: That's right. 'Always be closing.' 'Telling's not selling.' That's the attitude you wanna have, okay.
