woke

A term that originated in black communities; a AAVE (African American Vernacular Enlgish) slang for being aware of the social injustices around oneself.

During and after the Black Lives Matter movement, the term has been thrown around and its original meaning lost, as the negative perception of the BLM movement + new media and content that makes an effort to be inclusive, affects the general interpretation of the word.

Now, its often seen being used to describe a person/entity of trying too hard to show diversity and be inclusive, for the pure sake of crowd pleasing.

The people who use this word with a negative connotation tend to be right-wing/conservative in their political beliefs; the majority being White. The people who use "woke" with its original meaning intended, tend to be left-wing/liberal in their political beliefs; which most groups tend to be ethnically and religiously diverse.

Notes: Younger generations seem to use it in a positive sense, older generations tend to apply negative connotations. "Younger" generations are now stepping up and into positions of power and authority: becoming politicians, educators, and creating new movies and media. both generations are seeing normalized sexualization, racism, misogyny, etc being filtered out, and feel different ways about them.
original intended meaning:
"Make sure you know your rights when dealing with law enforcement. Stay woke!"

"Stay woke out there- its against federal law to prevent employees from sharing wage information. They'll take advantage of you if they can."

conservative-evolved meaning:

"The Little Mermaid is WHITE, Disney needs to stop being woke!"

"Woke liberals are trying to indoctrinate children into thinking they are gay."

Woke

'The belief that one is more enlightened, their intentions purer and more correct, and that what they say, do, or practice is always in the best interest of whomever they deem as worthy or in need of it, usually a minority group and/or a financial demographic'
Woke person A: "I believe we must empower said group, and only listen to people of said group, as they are less represented, and I care about championing and giving a voice to people!"
Woke Person B: "What about the other group from the other demographic, who have a conflicting opinion?"
Woke Person A: "Well uh, um, t-they are bad and their views don't matter! Like I said, I champion and give a voice to people, b-but not those other p-people! Shut up!"

Schrödinger's Woke

A quantum superposition wherein a piece of media (such as a film, television or streaming series, etc) is simultaneously "woke" and "not woke" until that piece of media is either a financial success or failure - at which point, whiney conservatives on the internet will label it "woke" if said media bombs and "not woke" if it succeeds, thereby resolving the superposition. This strategy handily allows them to maintain their delusional worldview and avoid acknowledging the reality that the majority of the population, progressive or otherwise, just isn't that bothered by, for example, a black woman in this or that Star Wars show.
Internet conservatives before the Mario movie came out: "The Mario movie's going to bomb because it's woke, Princess Peach is such a girlboss! gEt wOkE gO bRoKe!"

THE SAME internet conservatives after the Mario movie came out and made bank: "The Mario movie sold like gangbusters because it rejects woke, something something Chris Pratt!"

A normal person: "Schrödinger's Woke strikes again!"
