From the Hebrew word יֵשׁ --yesh. Yesh means "something/exist/being/is" The idea of yesh is to bring out of nothingness (Hebrew) אַיִן,)
According to kabbalistic teachings, before the universe was created, there was only Ayin.. Then creation takes place "Yesh me-Ayin" ("Something from Nothing").
So to yesh is to perform the
fundamental act of creation--to bring something into
existence from nothing.
