Math as a Verb

When math learning goes beyond learning facts, figures, and applications; instead, math is humanized so that it is allowed to convey beauty, values, truth, justice, play, and love—when mathematical thinking is viewed as a way of life.
Teachers should present math as a verb, not as a noun—when students should be encouraged to be active players, not mere spectators.

Math Is a Verb

When the world’s most disliked school subject is not a spectator but a player sport; when you need to do math rather than just read about it—the very reason why pop or general math books seldom help raise the mathematical or quantitative literacy of their armchair readers.
Recreationally speaking, math is a noun, but painfully or cognitively speaking, math is a verb—reading and understanding a math proof is one thing; guessing and checking and failing repeatedly and finally proving or solving a math problem is the actual thing.

A Pi-Free Math Book

The mathematical equivalent of a meeting-free day or passport-less travel. When the sight of the symbol π is enough to trigger panic or paranoia among billions of folks worldwide, who think they weren’t born or blessed with the “math gene.”
Just as a math book without equations or formulas could raise the sales figures by a few folds, a pi-free math book could give thousands of math-anxious folks more confidence in picking up a pop math book without feeling unduly stressed.

Math Is a Verb.

When you can’t be a spectator vis-à-vis the world’s most disliked school subject, but you need to be a player to master it—reading or listening about math won’t make you fluent in the subject, but doing math will.
Like Christianity, math is a verb. Just like you can’t impact lives if you merely know about Jesus and His teachings, so reading pop math books without dirtying your hands is unlikely going to raise your quantitative literacy in meeting the technological challenges of the 21st century.

l.a. math test

A piece of Internet humor involving mathematical word problems set in an urban context, involving murder, drugs, and prostitution. Real teachers have gotten in trouble for giving this test to students, which they probably deserved due to their stupidity.
Hector knocked up 6 girls in his gang. If there are 27 girls in the gang, what percentage of the girls has Hector knocked up?

He pulled a Mathis

It is in reference to Otis Mathis, Chairman of the Detroit School Board, who was fondling his private parts for 20 minutes and then unzipped his pants while ejaculating in his "hanker'chief" while meeting with the Superintendent Teresa Gueyser.
"He pulled a Mathis" wile in the classrooom despite being ill discipline to maintain a focus on education and was anxious about taking a test he knew he would fail.
