Soula
New term for descendants of enslaved Africans in the United States. The term distinguishes their culture from being the broader African diaspora and establish a new identity that isn’t apart from their heritage and traditions yet sets a boundary from being lost in history as a lost ethnicity. (Not claiming American because of the psychological and physical manipulation and erasing their attachment to their ancestors home.)
Jennifer: Hey where are you from?
Demarcus: Wassup! I’m from Mississippi
Jennifer: No that where are you really from, like where did your parents come from
Demarcus: Aw yea im Soulaan, It means I’m a descendant of enslaved Africans in the United States so i was born here.
