YYDS(Yong Yuan De Shen, 永远的神) literally means "eternal God". It is used to describe that someone is cool, awesome, powerful.

The word 永远的神 was created by Ruo, a Chinese League of Legends streamer. During the stream, Ruo praised pro LoL player Uzi with the word 永远的神. This meme subsequently spread, making almost every people to jokingly call Uzi "God". But this meme only spread in Chinese LoL community in the early days.

With time going by, people gradually started to use the acronym YYDS to refer 永远的神, and this expression was also adopted by the public. For example, Luckin Coffee used YYDS as the tagline for its ice latte.

YYDS was later widely accepted during Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where the media used YYDS to praise the athletes.

I loved watching the Tokyo Olympics diving competition. Congrats to the Chinese Diving Dream Team and the super talented 14-year-old gold medalist Quan Hongchan. She is “YYDS”! -- by Paris Hilton

A Chinese dialectical abbreviation. Used to abbreviate “yong yuan de shen”, literally translated into “forever god”. Used when praising a majority-agreed awesome thing. Compare with GOAT.

Person with old fashioned ideas which he is unwilling to change: Come to the disco and stop being such an old fogey!
You think me an old fogeyand an old tory, his thoughtful voice said. I saw three generations since O’Connel’s time. I remember the famine. Do you know that the orange lodges agitated for repeal of the union twenty years before O’Connel did or before the prelates of your communion denounced him as a demagogue? You fenians forget some things. (James Joyce, Ulysses. Penguin Books,1992. p. 38)
