Definition:
Maskquerading the practice of keeping up appearances but only providing lip service to social distancing guidelines that curb the spread of Covid-19. Typically performed by Millennials and older image conscious liberals (see Tesla drivers). Excludes those who actually care. Also, generally excludes Gen Z, Republicans, and #MAGA Supporters who don’t even try to keep up appearances ‘cause they don’t give a fuck.
Usage:
Paul: Damn, EB. That face mask is 🔥! Didn’t realize you were concerned about COVID. Is it N95? Noticed you drinking White Claw through it
Eugenio: Shit, more like N01. I'm just maskquerading by wearing this retro mesh jersey around my face for looks. Social distancing don’t matter, we’re millennials!
Fronting that you care about COVID-19safety precautions for optics or to impress a match.
I was super stoked to find someone who’s also taking COVID guidelines seriously, but she’s totally maskerading! She posted an Instagram story last night and she was at a huge house party
when you're holding up your phone and making faces at it, as though you are taking a selfie, but you're really taking a picture of the person across from you or the wall or anything else that seems interesting but you don't want to be caught dead taking a picture of.
This action is often made more convincing by wiggling the eyebrows or opening the mouth, to pretend you're trying to get a Snapchat filter to work.
