a old monster is a character trope commonly used in xianxia cultivation novels in witch this type of character would be a foremost influential character who is usually a elder in some supreme sect (usually a jillion years old or something thus the "old" part) who has mastered some form of marital cultivation form with heaven defying talent and in witch breads unduly begotten pride and as such through the mc's character arc there hubris enacts itself in full.
