backspoofing

Calling yourself with spoofed CLID for the purposes of getting the CNAM of a particular number.

The best way to reverse lookup numbers is by backspoofing.

CLID

A telco acronym for "Calling Line IDentification". Typically end users in the US call this "caller ID". It can display both the name and number of the party that is calling you in most areas.

When my phone rang and the CLID said "THE BANK" I decided to not answer it.

pre-scan

A scanning technique in which the scanner performs backspoofing on a list of numbers to find out which ones have interesting CLID names. Telco test numbers will often have the name of the telco come up (ie. Verizon).

I did a pre-scan in 907 and found tons of test numbers from the Mukluk telephone company.
