an idea with merit
boy: mother, I don't like my grades; i think i'll just go and deal drugs. I heard it's a faster way to make money short-handed
father: (butting in, voice dripping with sarcasm): what do you think of getting a legal job and the Unforgiveables? IMHO that would be much more of an idea with merit.

sit-upon
mother: Evan, please get your sit-upon off the floor, I can't pass with the laundry basket; you're in the middle of the bloody hallway.
Evan: go back to your cave. Can't you see I'm playing transformers?.

to pay your bills on time
to do things right/correctly/the way they are supposed to be done/ when they they are supposed to be done the first time around, so as to avoid either having to redo the same job twice or suffering other unpleasant consequences (such as literally not paying your actual bills on time and having to pay late fees).
son (crying, with a piece of ungraded homework in his hands) Dad, why the hell is this composition of mine on The Great War not even graded? And why did the teacher just shove it back in my face with out even bothering to look at it.
Father: listen, Carl. If I'd be your teacher, i would have reacted the exact same way. Just look at your penmanship. Ca laisse a desirer. I can't even , lol, call it handwriting, it would probably, immb qualify as turkey-chicken scrawl. Now the moral of the fable is of course to pay your bills on time. Now, take this travail bacle afaap out of my line of site and rewrite your homework.

cameo
cameo
1) a delicately carved relief on a jewel or plaque
2) a specific type of jeweler who creates personalized cameos
3) a neutral or offensive, depending on the situation, term for people that are physically healthy, but of a very pale skin complexion, kind of like Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter series.
4) a specialized jewelery store/business where personalized cameos are produced
5) an offensive term for a female who is so emotionally sensitive that she will literally faint at the site of a bouquet of flowers (sort of like Marie Antoinette's friend the Princesse de Lamballe)
6) (as a proper female name) short for either Cameron (as in Cameron Diaz) or Carmen (as in Carmen Electra)

two people in conversation:
person a) my sister is an art student. she wants to be a cameo later, maybe open her own cameo place.
person b) your sister is already is already a cameo.. She looks like, I dare say, a female version of Draco Malfoy
person a): lol. you forgot to mention that my sister's name is Carmen

the ball is in your court
a direct English translation of the french (specifically of France, and not elsewhere) expression "la balle est dans ton/votre camp" this expression means
it is now up to you to decide on what to do/what decision to make/decide what you want to do.
it is now up to you to decide on what to do/what decision to make/decide what you want to do.
mother: Angela, why are you doing drugs? I now give you two choices: either you leave your current boyfriend Brandon and stop with your drugs, or you can move in with him; in which case I will want to have nothing to do with your life. The ball is in your court.
Angela:I would like to commit suicide. Wtf? You want me to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea?
mother: that's not an option. i am taking you right now for a psyche eval.

won't stand for it
a phrase meaning: won't allow it (whatever it may be, and however one defines whatever it is they won't allow).
boy a) I'll borrow money from our parents, Andrew, to play poker with some buddies.
Andrew : I am sick and tired of supporting your stupid poker habit. I have decided on our parents' behalf that i won't stand for it that you borrow money from them. Losing all your money at such nonsense can lead you to doing harakiri
