Spending hours on end on youtube, going from one related video to the next, in a kind of trance-like state. Similar to a wiki-binge.
Ricardo Rafiel Johnson: Dawg, how long have you been on that computer?

Timothy Jared Schwartz: About five hours.

Ricardo Rafiel Johnson: Dude, you need to snap out of that youtube trance.

A large event held annually at the Jaarbeurs convention center in Utrecht, Netherlands. It is an event in which (unsurprisingly) trance music is played. Trance Energy features many of the world's top DJ's, as well as crowds up to 30,000 coming from around the world.
Person #1: Trance Energy is awesome! When did you get into this sort of thing?
Person #2: I played DDR! Check out these moves! *begins stamping on floor in four different directions*
Person #1: *walks away*

(n.) A condition of daydreaming while swimming laps for competitive competition/practice. The tendency of someone to have such a condition while swimming generally reflects their vulnerability of daydreaming and can impair their memory such as not being able to recall how long of a distance they are swimming, what stroke they may be swimming and how long they may need to swim it for. This phenomenon generally occurs more frequently during a longer swim for swimmers at a swimming distance rate of x/y=1/1.5 where x, equal to one, is the average length of the swam distance per a workout or meet and where y, equal to 1.5, is the added distance in which a swimmer may have higher chances of being subject to swimmer's trance. Therefore, if the average distance swam by a swimmer was 200 meters during his/her workout or competition per each time he/she swam again in their workout then swimmer's trance would likely occur more frequently at distances of 300 meters or more. For this reason many long-distance events in a swim meet now have counters in which another person flips a sign with rotating board windows to indicate the number of laps already swum. Usually a solid red square or rectangle is used to indicate that upon reaching the next wall after this flip turn that they should stop swimming and almost eliminates the chances of swimmer's trance affecting a swimmer's time in competition.
Mike suffered from such a bad case of swimmer's trance that he couldn't lead off his lane for practice with concerns that he would forget what they were supposed to be swimming.

Classic Trance is the name given to Trance tracks that were made during 1990–1995. The reason why it's called 'Classic' is because these songs are what truly describe what Trance was supposed to be as a genre. Trance arose out of Techno, House and Ambient leading to a very spacey kind of music, which was sequential and hypnotic (d'oh!).

After 1995, Trance took influences from Epic, Progressive and Anthem House and became an entirely different genre.

The classic tracks were tied together by a few elements: 4x4 bass-drum, an atmospheric feel, length (upto 20 minutes) and acid basslines.
Examples of Classic Trance are:

Age Of Love – Age Of Love (Jam & Spoon Watch Out For Stella Remix)
Dance 2 Trance – We Came In Peace (91 Mix)
Spicelab – Amorph (Original Mix)
Resistance D – Cosmic Love
Art Of Trance – Octopus
The Visions Of Shiva – Perfect Day
Zyon – No Fate (No Fate Mix)
Vernon – Vernon's Wonderland

Trance Metal is a mixed Genre of Melodic Death Metal and with Trance music incorporated in it. It is a "metal" genre and doesn't consist of post-hardcore/electronic bands like Enter Shikari (they have trance elements but are not "trance metal" or other "core" bands like Attack! Attack! (synthpop-core not even trance).

Trance Metal usually are heavily guitar riff influenced bands (like most melodeath bands) with little breakdowns grooves or none at all. They are heavily influenced by bands like In Flames, At The Gates, Children Of Bodom, and/or Dark Tranquillity.

"During the mid to late 2000s, certain melodic death metal bands, such as Blood Stain Child, Timecry, Silent Descent, Lost Eden, The Dawn Chose Orion, and Deadlock, began to incorporate techno or trance beats and atmospheres into their music. This relatively young style has been tentatively referred to as trance metal." - wikipedia.com

Electronically originated music with a tempo of at least 130 and at max 150 BPM that uses the same melodies used in classical music rather then normal electronic music melodies

it is not essensial for trance to have a beat under it there are trance songs which do not but it is very common to have a beat.

what most people know as trance music e.g: productions by 'Special D' , 'Lasgo' , 'Jan Wayne' etc... is not trance this is called eurodance or pollitacally incorrect: cheese it has some trance influences but it doesn't use the typical trance melodies but instead happy melodies and is nowhere near the complexity of trance with as purpose to reach high places in pop charts.
