A New York City subway train (the Eighth Avenue Express) mentioned in Duke Ellington's signature song "Take the A Train" and famously performed by Ella Fitzgerald. the name that native new yorkers refer to the NYC subway system. its is rare that you will here a native new yorker or someone who has lived in nyc for year call it "the subway". it is only called the subway when they refer to it to set it aside from metro-north or long island railroads all three are operate the MTA
