Multiple Document Interface

A computer operating system GUI element most known for its use in the Windows 3.x era. In a multiple document interface, one window contains multiple other "child" windows inside, which can be minimized, maximized, and closed, but is limited to the parent window.
Windows 3.1's Program Manager used a multiple document interface GUI.
