First off , we are not all snobs. Yes we might be the wealthier part of new york but that does not mean we are snobs. Nor are we pansies either. We are not clueless as to where things are in the city either. Yes we go on vacations often whoop di fuckin dooo. Keep talking smack on us and we'll just laugh and cut you off in our brandnew cars, while your driving your moms beat up honda civic.

The best place to live in the world. Yes, I will admit there are some snobby rich people and from my town probably 25% of the population is rich and snobby. But if you're saying that we are terrible because we live here and think we're better than everyone. Total lie. You don't see us running around in New Jersey telling everyone how great we are...and furthermore we are not bad people because we live here...I was born and raised in a preppy town on the North Shore and I am proud...next time you want to go accusing Long Islanders, come talk to us, we're really not that terrible. Yes, there are always the drunk teenagers running around, and if you go down a main road at about 2 in the morning your bound to see about 30 15-18 year olds just going insane. But thats how it is here I'm sure we're not the only place in the world that does that. Life in Long Island is awesome... If you're trying to "diss" us well than you are just jealous that you don't drive a Jeep Wrangler, or BMW, or GMC Yukon, or Range Rover, out to a summer house in the Hamptons where you go to parties and have an awesome time. I don't have anything against any other part of the world or country, but coming from a person who lives in Long Island, I hope you get your facts right next time.
Long Island is the place to be.
If you don't live here,
You're no living.

An Island right outside of NYC. It consist of yes Brooklyn and Queens, but it is better known for Nassau and Suffolk. Nassau has a higher crime rate than suffolk. Suffolk has many beaches, but is too suburban and in my opinion boring to live. Wyandanch in Suffolk County, is yes poor but DEFINATLEY not the hood. But places in Nassau tend to to be more Urban and more hood. Not as hood as places in NYC, but for Long Island these are definatley hoods. Roosevelt, Hempstead, and Freeport. And that's about it. Roosevelt known for one of America's most famous rap groups Public Enemy, which is well known and respected. Also the famous doctor J. Though Hempstead and Freeport are the hood, Roosevelt is one of the only full black communtiy's on Long Isalnd, and a little hispanic.
I don't feel like giving an example, so I'll just put the word in so they'll accept it. Long Island.

"in southern New York State, along with New York City. Nassau and Suffolk make up psuedo-long island, which techincally not part of the city. But most of nassau and western suffolk have the same culture and same or close "new york minute" feeling(rush hour for example). After all most of the skilled workforse for the city comes from the island, and its the money those people bring home that keeps long islands economy strong.

Most of long island is suburbs, from the town of brookhaven in suffolk to the queens border. Some of the areas are more urban than others, and some completely urban(spots in nassau, for example). Ask anyone, either they or their parents have lived in the city at one point in recent history; people move to get into more suburban atomosphere and to be closer to the beaches.

And to clear the "New Yorker" term up. "New Yorker" comes from "NEW YORK City" not New York State, so it refers to people in the city. Since Long Island is so closely connected with teh city, both culturly and geographically (brooklyn and queens are on long island), Long Islanders are also called New Yorkers (except for the east enders who stay in their shells and never go west). While out of staters can call people from upstate New Yorkers, its because they dont know the area well. Upstate is completely different than downstate, its more like pennsylvania, and doesnt embrase the "New York" atmosphere."

Couldn't have said it better myself. Long Island is the atmosphere of NYC put into a suburban setting. Long Islanders like to refer to each other as New Yorkers because the two areas are very related. But even diffrent areas on Long Island have diffrent feelings. Nassau and Western Suffolk have a lot more people who are more commonly jewish and more appreciative of the city. East of western suffolk (Huntington, Commack, Farmingdale, etc.) feels more like people who don't really like the city and are more like typical Middle americans. Some parts of Long Island have a very "Queens-ish" feeling to them. Some parts of the very west end of Nassau county have a similar atmosphere to Queens (Great Neck, New Hyde Park, Manhasset).
Great Beaches, Great style......

Long Island is the Beverly Hills of the East. Long Island has people with big egos' and even bigger bank accounts. Old Westbury, Muttontown, Upper Brookville, Oyster Bay Cove, Brookville, Old Brookville,Mattinocock are just some of the neighborhoods with 10 cars per garage. Syosset, Jericho, and Roslyn have the hottest guys. Friends Academy is the private school to go to. Muttontown C.C., Glen Oaks, Fresh Medows, Pine Hollow, Old Westbury, and Engineers are the clubs to belong to. Sweats appeal, Lone Star, National are the stores to shop out.
If you live on Long Island you usually drive a mercedes, porshe, BMW, ferrari, Lambergini, Range Rover, or a cadillac. First cars are usually over 40,000. And you aren't cool if you don't own a jet. Girls that live on LI love the miracle mile, Everyone enjoys Hirschlifers and London Jewlers. Nobody needs to worry about getting fat becasue they all have their own personal trainers.

Long Island is a part of New York State where all people from Manhattan look down on and make fun of and hate with a passion.
They have no culture, fashion, nightlife, etc. There is nothing to do on Long Island but go to the mall, get drunk, play cards, gossip, and do drugs. Most people who are from Long Island think they are superior and regard Manhattan as a dump. Just shows how ignorant these people are.
On the weekends Long Islanders invade Manhattan to go to the clubs, restaurants, bars. Pretty funny since they say they hate Manhattan. They ruin any part of Manhattan they visit. Once Long Island people start hanging out at a popular Manhattan club, no one from manhattan attends anymore and the club closes done.
Long Islanders have no fashion sense or style. They wear clothes from Kmart and are stuck in 1996. They couldnt tell a Versace shirt from a Kmart brand shirt.
They also could never afford to live in Manhattan.
I feel bad for anyone who knows anyone from Long island, they are as*sholes.
"Chris is from Long Island, he plays poker at night, gets drunk and wears Kmart Clothes. He says people like me from manhattan have nothing since we have the most popular musuems in the country, have the best restaurants, and best nightlife. Chris is a typical ignorant Long Islander"
