2 Buck Chuck

Share definition Flag
A wine of various types by Charles Shaw (Chuck) which is sold for $1.99 a bottle at the Trader Joe's grocery store chain in California, with bottles by the hundreds, possibly thousands, in plain sight at these locations. It is surprisingly decent and is a nice cheap way to buy booze as long as you don't care what it is.
Friend: Why do you have wine?

Me: How about because bottles of wine are the same as about 5 beers, these are two dollars each, and I still can still eat once I'm starving. And also because I don't care what you think. So I bought 2 buck chuck.

Friend: True, good point.

(Australian) - any cheap and nasty booze that gets you totally off your guts.

This is not related to the Seppo version of "two buck chuck" where the chuck refers to the specific brand of booze (Charles Swan). The "chuck" in Australia refers to the act of vomiting, which an average bottle of this stuff will do to you.

There are many types of cheap stuff for around five bucks a bottle, but as a pre-requisite they must smell and taste like a blend of juniper berries and paint stripper.

As favoured by 16-year-olds everywhere.

Two-Buck-Chuck

Share definition Flag
An Australian slang word for a bottle of extremely cheap and nasty wine. Often confused with 'goon'.
Due to high alcohol taxes in Australia, despite the name, two-buck-chuck which once would've cost $2, may now cost anywhere up to $5.

The name is derived from its affect on the consumer, as drinking it very fast is potent and often makes the consumer quickly drunk and vomit violently.
It is often drunk for these above reasons- to get inebriated quickly and frugally.
Additonally- the action of vomiting quickly to sober yourself up, and to get back to partying is called having a "power-chuck".
"Do you want to get pre-drinks, before we got out?" "Nah, no time mate, I'm just gonna down a bottle of two-buck-chuck"

Striver

Share definition Flag
The striver is an interesting phenomenon that is seen across college campuses. In essence, the striver is an over-achiever who comes from a working or middle class family. He may be an immigrant. He may have been a slacker in HS who was "born again" into an academic wunderkind. Or he may just be an over-achiever who is keeping at it.

The striver is willing to sacrifice his social life at the expense of Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. The striver is the guy who stays at the library long after you are gone. The striver is the guy who takes 30 credits/semester and considers anything below an A/4.0 failure. The striver doesn't work on campus, he is too busy finding ways to pad his resume instead of working retail or workstudy. The striver lets his grades pay his education by applying to ten scholarships a year.

The striver is a future Soros/Fullbright/Rhodes/Gates/Marshall/etc. fellow. The striver lives to study. For the striver, their fun comes from the rewards they expect to receive in return for their diligence. Be it Law School, B-School, academia, or politics. The striver seeks to find the American Dream through academic success.
Anthony was a striver. He transfered from a TTT to an IVY and graduated in 2 years. He studied his ass off and went to Penn Law. He got a Biglaw offer. But lost it all because of an unmoderated mesasgeboard.

- Harold Koh
