A deregatory term for a heterosexual white male, whose usage can be understood much in the same way as terms such as nigger. Created for the sole purpose of there being no sufficent curse word to call heterosexual white males that is nonspecific as to their location, such a honky or redneck

A rookie on a hockey team that everyone always hates. Never picks up the pucks, is a Charlie Conway type of hero in practice and jokes around with everyone even though they hate his guts. A schmelt does not know he is a schmelt which is often the best part of it.

Matt: But she told me not to.

Joe: Well, she really didn't mean it. She wanted you to call her.
