Overmedicalize

To believe all personal or practical problems can be resolved purely through medications, diagnoses and therapy over self-sufficiency, introspection or other non-clinical means.

The solutions proposed to practical problems may be overly elaborate with excessive reliance on ‘the data’, academic groupthink or institutional authority.

Alternative ideas or solutions which are shown to work but contradict a baron or tycoon of ‘empirical data’ will be silenced through condemnation or other dogmatic behaviour.
Person A: “He took excessive amounts of prescription drugs when what he needed was fresh air and social interaction. His problems were overmedicalized.”

Person B: “There is no research behind this misinformation you are spreading. The data shows what he lacked was a sufficient level of chemical XYZ and complex proteins we don’t quite understand. It’ll take 50 years of peer-reviewed research and meta-analysis before anyone knows the true extent of how correct I am.”
