orelay

"Orelay" is most commonly misspelled "odelay" by people who do not know any Spanish but want to be cool anyway. This is also a closer to a phonetic spelling of the pronunciation of the word. Originated from Mexico, it basically means "Alright", "Okay" or "Oh Yeah" in such a way like you just had an orgasm with no drama or got one million dollars that magically appeared on your doorstop with no strings attached, or a brand new sony television just bought you a beer and now wants to take you home and be all yours. :)

Oreland

A small town outside of Philadelphia. It is a part of Springfield Township.

When talking about it to someone from far away, they always either have never heard of it or know someone that lives there that probably knows you.

Person that lives in Oreland: Yeah, i live in Oreland.

Other Person: never heard of it.

Person that lives in Oreland: well its near Fort Washington...

Other person: Oh really, my second cousin lives there. His name is Bob Smith.

Odelay

While recording Beck's 1996 album of the same name, the then-unnamed track 'Lord Only Knows' was written down by the engineer as 'O-Del-Ay' based on his phoenetic understanding of the outro vocal. Beck is ACTUALLY singing "Órale", which is a common Hispanic term meaning:

1. affirmation that something is impressive, exclamatory
2. an agreement with a statement (similar to 'word')
3. alarm, surprise or danger
4. a simple greeting
5. "hurry up"

Beck liked the misspelling, naming the album after it. As such, the word carries a similar exclamatory function to it's Spanish pronunciation.

"Odelay, Odelay! Just passing through."
