Absence from school/work the day after an all nighter/ midnight showing of a blockbuster film (usually based on a grapic novel such as Watchmen).

"I came down with a bad case of Nerd Flu after the midnight showing of X-Men Origins: Wolverine on Thursday."

The phenomenon of getting sick after going to a large comic book or fan convention. When packing 100,000 attendees in a small indoor space, someone's going to have a cold.

I wore masks before way before COVID because I'd get nerd flu after Con every year.

A phenomenon where one becomes ill after attending a comic book convention or fan convention. Because if go to an indoor event with 100,000 attendees; someone's going to be sick. It is a play on "Bird Flu".

nerd-flushing is when you insert a cultural, social or scientific reference into a confirmation such that geeks, operating amongst the mundanes, feel obliged to acknowledge, thereby blowing their cover.

nerd-flushing usage: "She totally nerd-flushed me with that miniature giant space hamster reference."
