I'm kind of fed up with stereotypical comments on Memphis. I've lived here my whole life (and I don't have a Southern accent!). Memphis is a great city, aside from humid summers. Our Zoo is rated like, highest in the nation, our downtown full of history, Lorraine Motel, Stax, Graceland, Riverboats, etc., and I have never once witnessed or been involved with crime. Why dwell on the 60% African American population? I find it funny that you call Memphis racist when all you look at is our black population. Guess what? That means 40% of other races. Why can't you just say that? I've never run into extreme racism, and I have plenty of friends of other races. For crying out loud, I have a Chinese exchange student living with me. How's that for closed-minded?

A city on the turn around from a few decades of bad karma and even worse government. Granted there are still some less than intelligent people running things, but the city is definitely changing for the better. The crime rate is down, though there are still some neighborhoods to avoid...as in every city. There are still some problems but come by in May for some storms, great music, great food, and a great time.
Memphis is a town on the turn around.

Okay, listen. Memphis is a great city. A lot of people on here keep saying that Memphis is uncultured and has the highest crime rate. Okay, well, Memphis has Beale Street, the National Civil Rights Muesem, and a whole shitload of other stuff. What does your city have? Nothing. And the 64% African American population in Memphis, why does that matter? That's just racism and being stereotypical. White people are just as bad as black people. So get over yourself because bashing Memphis doesn't make you any better than our city's government, which I will admit is very messed up. But then you go to places like Collierville and Germantown and learn that not all of Memphis is as bad as people say. The people saying crap about Memphis on here have probably never even been here. I've lived in Memphis.. well Collierville.. for four years and have been in the city a lot and I have never once gotten my car stolen, gotten mugged, gotten shot, or have seen any of these things being done. So just SHUT UP.
Memphis is amazing.

Pretty much the best town in TN!
besides the crime rate, dirty resturants, ppl holding weapons to ur back asking you for money at 3 oclock in the afternoon, crappy schools, the mayor, the drugs, and having ur car stolen twice a year......it has the best BBQ and that prety much makes up for everything!
ppl love the 901 heck yess!!!!!!
