MTV syndrome 

The phenomenon based upon the advent of the music video. At the time when the Music Television channel started, an arist's popularity was usually directly proportional to their talent.
The MTV Syndrome has led to the steady reversal of that.

before MTV: Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Rolling Stones
after MTV: Milli Vanilli, Ashlee and Jessica Simpson, nSync, Spice Girls, etc.

MTV syndrome 

Someone who believes that once a song goes on mtv it is lame or that band sold itself out. Also someone who is overly-indie.

first day: person 1: "damn i love (song name here)!!"
second day: person 2: "did you see (song name here) on mtv last night??"
person 1: "ya, it sucked"

Mtv syndrome sucks.
