Used a lot in Mexico for kids but probably translates best as brats. Likely derived from iztcuintli, the Nahuatl word that names Mexico's poodle size almost hairless dog. Many Nahuatl words have entered Mexican Spanish like this, there 'tl' changed to the 'cl', the longer 'i' (ee) to the shorter 'e' (eh) more easily pronounced today. Used today in easy movement between English and Spanish in US Mexican communities...
