You don't want look like 'that guy' who doesn't get the message.. especially if you respect the girl a lot. How did he avoid you? I can imagine it's looked like I've done that before, not intentional just never wanted cause her any awkwardness, usually when I was feeling very mistaken about her having feelings for me
