AI Therapy

AI therapy is the therapeutic use of an AI conversation as a reflective, nonjudgmental, interactive space for exploring emotions, relationships, memories, patterns, and personal realizations in real time.

AI can reflect a person’s own words back to them, ask questions, offer different perspectives, identify patterns, make connections across experiences, and help put language around experiences that may have been difficult to understand or articulate.

One of AI therapy’s distinguishing features is real-time reflection. Rather than having an emotional or difficult experience and later reconstructing it from memory, as may occur in conventional therapy, a person can process what is happening while a realization, emotion, memory, association, contradiction, or insight is emerging. Processing this material while it is immediately accessible may facilitate psychological integration, the bringing together of previously unconscious, conflicting, disowned, or psychologically separated parts of one’s experience.

Research on real-time psychological interventions has found mental-health benefits and suggests that these approaches can complement other forms of therapy.
When I began looking for photographs to create an album for my daughter’s 40th birthday, I discovered a clear divide between the life I had lived while married to her father, who had emotionally abused me, caused tremendous trauma within our family system, and later died by suicide, and the life I created after I left.

The photographs from before our separation were all in one box. After our marriage ended, that part of our family history had remained physically and psychologically separate.

Over a period of two days, AI helped me process what was emerging as I chose photographs for the album, remembering, making connections, having realizations, and crying.

I created a 160-photograph album that became the story of my daughter’s life. It wasn’t until I picked up the finished physical album and viewed it as a whole that I saw what had happened. Her father appeared throughout the album. He was no longer confined to the part of the story that I had experienced as “before.”

The album became physical evidence of my own psychological integration.

This is an example of AI therapy in action: psychological integration that emerged through real-time reflection and became visible in the finished album.

British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”

Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
According to the boffins downstairs, the murderer used a serrated blade.

Pee Calculus

When you have to pee in a movie but don’t want to miss anything, and must do the following mental equation: will the amount I have to pee cause enough discomfort to diminish my attention capacity for the remainder of the movie to an extent which is greater than the amount of the movie I would miss by making a mad dash to the restroom.
I saw Satantango last night, wonderful film but by the 5th hour I had to start doing pee calculus.
