Inspecting the bunker

A bald faced lie, issued from someone in a position of power. Used to cover a potential embarrassing situation when they just don't want to admit it, but it's not fooling anyone. Could be as small as an unclaimed fart, or the president of a country fleeing in fear. It is PAINFULLY OBVIOUS NO ONE BELIEVES THE LIAR, but the ones lied to are not in a position to call the liar on it.

"I wasn't hiding from the protesters, I was just inspecting the bunker." also "The kids flat out caught me eating their Halloween candy but I totally inspected the bunker and told them it was some I had bought." and "My intern got on the elevator and smelled my fart, I just inspected the bunker and told her it was there when I got on too".
