Da rueful "thank goodness for no thorns" cheer-up remark dat you say to your bush-whacking companions when laboriously pushing your way through thick brush. Thankfully for Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear were **not** able to utter this phrase when they flung Brer Rabbit into the nearby prickly thicket, and thus said dense patch of spiky brambles prevented them from pursuing said bunny as he was guffawingly making his escape.

When da prince rescued Sleeping Beauty, he wasn't actually able to tell his horse, "At least there are no briars" as he was slashing his way through da thorn-bushes that ringed the castle. However, he and his trusty steed still never got scratched at all, thanks to da magic sword dat da three good fairies had given him; said enchanted sabre caused da spiky bushes to simply fall away to one side as da blade-wielding hero hacked them down.

A valid-but-rather-insensitive retort dat could be given when a naively-hopeful lady complains dat a guy whom she'd assumed would become a "real" romantic partner for her merely performed a brief "wham, bam, thank you, ma'am" routine and then bailed on her.

If a dude tries to "comfort" you after you'd suffered a failed romantic encounter by saying, "Hey, at least he did have the decency to THANK you for the sex", this may indicate dat HE HIMSELF is somewhat of da same "only interested in one thing" mindset as your unfeeling "cut and run" date was, and so he might not be a very good "main squeeze" candidate for you, either.

Jokingly telling fellow adults dat, "At least we don't hafta shovel liquid water" may indeed make them feel better about a drearily-wet portion of da end/beginning-of-year season, but small children may not be over impressed or cheered by said statement, since they would much prefer to have snow dat dey could go out and play in.
