Kawaii is a cringey way of saying cute.
You say it on purpose in an English sentence, the cringier it gets.

A word that is commonly mistaken to literally mean 'cute'. Sorry to say this, but it ACTUALLY literally means 'good face'.
Use it in conversation and the other person will likely feel like clawing their face off.
(Also it's actually pronounced 'Kawa-ee', not 'kawa-I')

PersonA: OMG THAT DRESS IS SOOO KAWAII!!
PersonB: ...It has a good face? WHAT.
PersonA: NO IT MEANS CUTE GET IT??
PersonB: *stares and leaves*

A really cute girl who is Asian even if not Japanese but can pull off being a cute Japanese girl any day of her life. Basically someone so darn cute that you need to have another word to describe it.

Yami Kawaii (病みかわいい) is a Japanese aesthetic that was originally born as opposite to the pastel Yume Kawaii aesthetic. The Japanese word "yami" can mean both "dark" or "sick", and refers to its use of dark colors and motifs related to sickness.
