one who takes a picture of them self to post on a social media site to get likes or comments, usually to help their already low self esteem. their arm is usually purposely placed in the picture, called the selfie arm showing that they have no friends to take the picture.

Selfie 

Selfie is in which a person uses a front side camera or a built-in one on their phone to take a selfie. Fun fact: The word is actually in the Oxford Dictionary.

(Example: I'm going to try and take a selfie on my phone, it's the new thing people are doing!)

A photo of a person taken by that same person. Usually of no importance, and to the annoyment of those who see it. Person is usually under age of 25, female, and has weird infatuation with emulating ducks. Also known as "selfish me"

Selfie 

Ein Selfie ist ein Selbstportrait welches mit dem Hintergrund gemacht wird in einem sozialen Netzwerk hochgeladen zu werden. Durch das eigenständige Auslösen der Kamera beziehungsweise des Smartphones ist man nicht mehr auf die Anwesenheit oder das fotografische Talent eines anderen angewiesen. In fast jedem Selfie sieht man den ausgestreckten Arm, der die Kamera von sich weg hält.

Oh mein Gott ich seh heute total gut aus, ich mach erst einmal ein Selfie.
Mein Instagram Account hat tausende Abonnenten weil ich die besten Selfies mache.

A picture of yourself, you and some friends, or you and a group. Usually uploaded to a social media network such as Instagram, Facebook, My Space, etc. Sometimes they are just something to keep to your self or to share with friends. Selfies are also used to send pictures to each other, such as Snapchat, to see others mood or status. When uploaded to a social media network, likes and positive comments boost self esteem and love in his/her self.

I will take a selfie first, then upload it so all of my Twitter followers can see!
