Shooting for a Hermie

A fool's errand. Repeatedly attempting to accomplish the impossible. Refers to the practice of gypsy folk in 13th Century Transylvania who kept having kids in their obsessive desire to have brats with both sets of junk.
Yo. Ain't no way the Trash Panda's going to hook up with T-Bone. That cat's just shooting for a hermie, and should just pack it the fuck in.

Hermione Effect

1. The apparent attractiveness of a nerdy, bookwormy, down to earth girl over a hot babe because of her loyalty, personality, and ability to hang with the guys.
2. Getting turned on by a girl that is smarter than you, specifically in an instance in where she actually proves it.
1.
"I think Sarah, that girl from biology, is way hotter than suzie...but then again, it could be the Hermione Effect."
2.
Guy 1: "Dude, I was so hot for that nerdy girl from math yesterday when she was tutoring me. I mean, the way she spoke about the stuff.... it was so hot."
Guy 2: "Man, that's just the Hermione Effect"

Hermitting

To live as a loner, by choice or not, despite the presence of other options; for spiritual reasons or other reasons; to spend time away from people to read, write, introspect, gain knowledge, learn about self, learn lessons from the past, learn about life. Sometimes it can be the result of a trauma or depression, too.
"I've already spent a lot of time hermitting about you. Had a lot to learn from this poking and questioning, but I think I covered most of the You question now."

For example, when you get dumped by a loved one, you'll often question yourself for a long time about what happened that caused the failure. Sometimes when you really want answers, you'll tend to avoid noise and people. This is what I call "hermitting". This behaviour can get compared to that of a hermit, because the person rather spend time alone, to think, than with people having fun and socializing.

Sometimes, after a major turn in life, hermitting can be a necessary phase of "digestion of events" before being able to move on.

Hermit

Someone who enjoys doing things on their own away from groups. Hermits are always busy with so many things they want to do on their own that they rarely make time for social gatherings.

Many have high IQ's and are bored and unchallenged in social settings. They want to do what they want to do. Uninterrupted and unbothered. Often driven and very successful in knowledge and achievements in science & arts & philosophy (think Einstein)
~ For instance hermits prefer reading a book on the beach then chugging beer at a beach party.

~ They would prefer Riding a horse in the mountains to going to a camp sing-a-long.

~ Internet classes instead of a campus.

~ Cooking a gourmet dinner for a romantic date instead of Going to a Restaurant.

~ Internet surfing instead of myspace/twitter.
