Conversation Pirate

Someone who is always taking over a conversation that they were not originally part of. The person is within earshot when you start a conversation, then as the conversation is commencing, the third party loudly interjects a comment designed to derail the conversation so that all attention is then upon them. Usually they follow this up with even louder and more outrageous jibberish.
Frank: So, Chuck what did you do this weekend?
Chuck: Saturday night was awesome, I banged two chicks at once!
Curt, sitting just within listening distance, prepares to board the conversation just like a pirate boarding and looting a ship on the open seas, yells: I banged twelve chicks once!
Curt: But I got syphilis....
Curt: I gave it to Hank last night.
Frank: Curt is such a Conversation Pirate!

consolation goal

In a sports match where one team is very far behind the other team, but manages to score point(s) very late in the game, despite the outcome already being obvious.

Most likely used in soccer/football where one team already has a huge advantage (5-0) and it's very late in the game (89th minute out of 90)
In Brazil v Germany's semi final match in the World Cup, Germany beat Brazil 7-1. Brazil scored their only goal in the 90th minute, making it a consolation goal because there was no way Brazil could change the outcome of the match (score 6 goals) in less than 1 minute.

The First Law of Conversation

The First Law of Conversation (abbr. FLOC) states that one will always tune into a conversation at the most awkward point. Many linguists believe that this is God's punishment for eavesdropping.
"...And, on top of that, I had to go take my wang out of the tub drain!"
"What are you guys talking about?!"
"Oh, you just proved the First Law of Conversation, bitch!"

Conversational coma

Is a uncomfortable period of time of silence, in which two people who are usually in the beginning stages of a potential relationship, discover the horror of complete and utter silence. Usually this period of time is so long, that any hope of a sexual encounter is quickly extinguished.

adult conversation

A phrase used by American politicians to imply their opponent is acting like a child by supporting or opposing a certain position.

The irony of the phrase is that most children have an easier time compromising on divisive issues.
John Boehner: It is time we have an adult conversation about entitlement reform. Democrats need understand the reality of our fiscal situation.

President Obama: Well it's time that WE have an adult conversation about the budget.

Donald Trump: That's fine, but it is time we have an adult conversation about Obama's place of birth.

Consolation Prize

A consolation prize is when you ask a girl out and she says no but she wants to remain good friends. The guy feels like he is not good enough for a romantic relationship just a platonic friendship.

This usually occurs between friends; the guy and the girl start as friends however the guy starts to like her romantically and wants their friendship to develop into a relationship. When he lets his feelings be known to her, she turns him down but honestly tells him she wants him as a friend. At this point the guy needs to do some soul searching and figure out if they can go back to the way things were or they go their separate ways.

Sometimes girls will say this to a guy they don't know well as a subtle cue to go away. However this most often happens between friends and has the ability to destroy friendships. The guy has had his pride hurt and is left resentful and bitter and feels like he has been made a fool of by the girl who he thought so much of.

The girl is left hurt as well, since she feels guilty about hurting him and possibly losing a close friend. However she can quickly get annoyed at him if she thinks he's being immature or trying to guilt trip her into a relationship by acting depressed. Its an awkward situation and requires much tact and patience for things to turn out alright.
John Doe 1: "I ask Jane Doe out yesterday."

John Doe 2: "How did that go?"

John Doe 1: "I got the consolation prize...she wants to be friends."

John Doe 2: "Ouch, sorry man."
