Bloody Mary is the name given to the
ship between Simon from Iron Lung and Ryland
Grace from Project Hail Mary.
The crossover
ship came about due to both films releasing around the same
time, as well as both being sci-fi films. Fans thought that since both Simon and
Grace are traveling through space, there is a chance that they may come across one another. There are also not that many characters to
ship Simon with in Iron Lung and fans needed to reach out to other media for ideas. The
ship quickly took off with it gaining more traction in the month following its creation, with it often trending on tumblr as a result.
Due to Markiplier, who was the writer, editor and director for Iron Lung, being online very often, the prominence of the
ship on tumblr has had fans point out that he could very easily find out about it. Some fans think it would be
funny, and want him to find out, while other would prefer to keep the crossover
ship just to fans. Especially those that think Markiplier might get a little bit too into finding out people ship him with Ryan Gosling.
On AO3, BloodyMary is the fifth most written ship for Ryland and the most written for Simon. It is the fifth most written ship in the Project Hail Mary (2026) tag and the most written in the Iron Lung (2026) tag. There are currently 320+ written works.
