Emo means emotional.
A lot of people show their emotions very strongly, therefore they are emotional, or emo for short.
Not all emo's cut and complain about life. Not all emo's want to end there life. MTV has filled you head with lies. Some emo's do want to die, and some want to cut, but not every single emo wants to die. I just wanted to clear things up a bit for people who think all emo's cut.

I'm emo, but I don't want to die or cut myself. I love live and I don't want to end it.

short for "emotional punk" started in the 90's with bands like fugazi. i dont like them, but hey what do i know. emo is a type of music not a fashion trend, or hair-do. emo doesnt mean "im going to go cut myself." that is a massicist. i listen to emotional punk, and i have no desire to cut myself, or cut my hair so that it drapes my face. if you call this genre of music "emo," then you might as well call everything from country to rap emo, because the majority is all about heartache or tragedy.
