style of holding a microphone by or very close to the pop screen covering the actual pick up element. Despised by sound people because it prevents the mic from working the way it was designed. Made popular by rappers (and others) appearing in concert, tv, and film singing along with back up recording, ie vocal quallity of actual performance not as critical as a studio recording

Basically sounds like someone who is having a stroke or a very heavy drinker in front of the mic.
