A backronym for “tip” or gratuity. Tipping can be seen as a way of thanking a person for good services, so “thanks in pay” works pretty well.

The waiter was friendly and attentive, so I thanked him with a good tip.

Ah, so a tip is a thanks in pay!

Hym "Kill everybody (If you don't credit and pay me) is the WHOLE thing and I really didn't think you would be this resistant to crediting or paying me. Or I guess you could have paid the wrong person but, like, the second it started going off and the wrong person found out THEY WOULD HAVE KNOWN that they were stealing it so what did they say? 'Not my problem?' I mean, the people in my community knew who I was immediately when I posted the Etymology of my name. So...
