The term means to run the clock down and comes from a tactic employed in soccer. When a team wishes to waste time towards the end of the game they take the ball to the corner and do as little as possible with it while keeping it in play.

For example, when an a**hole is being dismissive or ignoring their sh*tty behavior, you may use to this phrase as a way to say “you’re a piece of sh*t, f*ck off until you realize what an a**hole you were”.
