indie

Indie, i believe is anything that is. It was once extremely underrated and now it has turned ino this giant mainstream scene of rich kids in the hills driving in there beamors and listening to the mouse or going home and watching "Garden State" affinity times. Oh well there will soon be a new scene out there for us to feast upon and then have it eaten and then shit out by some Hollister sporting surfer boys.

Now a variety of bands tht get worse by the minute, most indie is more depressing than emo, each song boring after 2 times worth of hearing it, and hooribly over played, because indie is the new "in"
most indie ppl say they are different and "individual" this cannt be true as they are indie, also most are just trendies and dont actually like the music!!!

guy:hey are you going to leeds fest?

guy:what bands are you going to see?

Indiekid

Indiekids come in all forms and fashions. What seperate them from the flock is their sense of entitlement and the belief that they are, in some way, smarter or more enlightened than their peers. Often this sene of superiority stems from their taste in music.

They will smugly admit to having an "eclectic" or "alternative" taste in music, but what they really mean is that what they listen to is better than what you listen to. If confronted with bands they have never heard of, they will vaguely dismiss them and run home to check them out on Pitchfork.

Indiekids will claim to read books, but are often simply reading reviews or lists of books compiled by other indiekids. When fouled up in a conversation about a specific book by a four-eyes or member of the literati, the indiekid will claim that they are mixing up plots, characters or details with other books they have just read. If not pressed on the matter they will become offended and ragequit.

Fond of irony, but lacking the ability to define what irony is, the indiekid is often at a loss when having a tête-à-tête people who use the word ironic ironically.

Indiekids may later evolve into hipsters or scenesters.

Joe: "Hey, you hear the new Bloody Beetroots album?"
Indiekid: "No, well, of course I've heard it, but I just didn't feel it. Too commercial and well-polished. Plus I've really been getting into IDM again lately..."
Joe: "IDM? Never heard of it."
Indiekid: "Oh, that's no surprise, it stands for Intelligent dance music."
Joe: "Oh for f*cks sake."

As a fashion statement-- indie is the less pathetic step-sibling of emo. It dresses better, is smarter, gets more dates, and has a slightly firmer grip on reality. It must be said, though, that although Indie doesn't cry at shows like Emo does, he/she will go home and cry ABOUT shows while writing in his/her journal. (see excerpt below)

The Fruit Bats show tonight was so fucking amazing. There was this one part when they went into like this twenty minute jam session and..oh my god. I actually died a little.

Despite roots in the word "independant", indie has become anything but that. Being indie now involves listening to music that is top of the chart and so mainstream it is actually impossible to enjoy eg. snow patrol, arctic monkeys, and wearing clothes and hair exactly the same as the person walking alongside them, whatever their gender may be. Strangely, clothes, hair and music is now extremely similar to emo, only less black. Being indie commonly involves worshipping NME like it is holy scripture, again reducing their once independant status to mindless sheep.

Indie kid: "Man I've just heard the new Arctic Monkeys single, it's great how they understand and manage to emphasise the chav culture whilst pushing fun at it"

Anyone else: Shut up.
