To be a total coward in the face of adversity. Originally coming from the rebellion of 1798 in Ireland, where typically pikes were made of more durable woods than ash. Because of Ash's unreliability, it was common excuse to flee from battle since one's pike would break.

Person 1: "Hey did you hear that Jimmy quit the football team?"
Person 2: "Yeah. He's a worse ash piker than his dad was during the Troubles."
