You are going out with a "friend" however it may actually be a "date" in disguise.

Alison: "Me and Tom are going out on a friend/date tonight.

Possible meaning: Alison and Tom say they are friends, but they really are more.

Possible meaning #2: Either Alison or Tom just think they are friends while the other thinks it's more.

Possible meaning #3: Neither Alison nor Tom really give a shit what their status is but just want to go out anyway.

Friend Zone

When somebody, usually a male, gets needlessly offended by the fact that a girl isn't attracted to them romantically and/or sexually.

The female will then say something along the lines of, "I'd rather just be friends." This is apparently some sort of 'bitch move'.

Guy 2: "Dude, you got friend zoned."

friend friend

someone whom is not "technically" your boyfriend/girlfriend, but whom seems to fill the traditional roles of such a position. Sort of a boyfriend/girlfriend who is not recieving benefits.

I'm allowed to go out with "Guy B" because "Guy A" is just my friend friend.
