If being superstitious is believing in things that aren't true, being substitious is believing in things that are true, but that very few people believe to be true.

There are many substitions, which include "It'll get better if you don't pick at it," "Sometimes things just happen," and "There are a lot of things in the world that you don't know about."

Terry Pratchett describes 71-Hour Ahmed as substitious, which "places him in a minority amongst humans."

pillow substitution

The act of switching pillow faces when a pillow becomes too warm due to absorption of the sleeper's body heat. This act can be accomplished by turning the pillow over, revealing the unused and cool side, or by getting a new pillow.

Last night I was pretty hot after doing my girlfriend. So my pillow got really hot and I couldn't fall asleep. That's when I pulled a pillow substitution. It was some tag-team, fresh action.

Substitute Teacher

The act of sitting on one's non-dominant hand for 20 minutes or until it is numb, then using that hand to beat off or give someone a hand job. Similar to The Stranger, but using the non-dominant hand (i.e. left hand if you are right-handed and vice versa).
